If you go to an orchard for something weird
A piece of fruit that is squishy and not too big
There is a story i just heard i want you to hear
And it has been going on for thirty-four million years
I'm sure you know that some plants like to eat animals
For their carnivorous nature this is quite normal
But there's a tree out there defying the plant kingdom
And that is why i want you to hear this very strange song
The wasp wasn't dead
Stung you in the head
How swollen is your mouth
You have regrets no doubt
The way i hear it's a symbiotic relation
Mainly it pertains to inflorescence pollination
You see the seeds in the figs resemble ovaries
And to get pollinated they need someone just like a bee
Chorus
The queen fits very thightly inside the fruit
She lays her eggs and departs trusting that they will bloom
And when they do the new offspring gets busy right away
A little sex in the morning a good start of the day
And then the males start on their tunneling duty
They dig away so their counterpart can be set free
But while the females leave the fruit to go out pollinating
The males are digested within the body of the fig
